My kids make red heart cut outs and other paper decorations and we decorate the house and outside with them. I also change the decor (pillows, candles, towels, plates and glasses) throughout the house for Valentine’s Day. We bake heart shaped cookies and cakes and buy red candies and my hubby and I go out to a restaurant that offers Valentine’s Day deals. We love going to seafood restaurants that offer many courses for one price.

    • Yes! If you come across a restaurant with any sort of offer on Valentine’s Day, make those reservations ASAP because they go quick!

  • Yolanda Ortega-Hackett

I Love buying chocolate covered strawberries for dessert. My husband cooks lobster and steak with potatoes

    • Chocolate covered strawberries are my go-to dessert on this day as well! 🙂

  • Jen

It’s not Valentine’s Day without some type of chocolate on the menu. I always like the idea of making a chocolate bomb with a dessert inside like ice cream or cake. You can use balloons to create half a sphere if you don’t have the molds and then piece it together. Then pour over some hot chocolate syrup, caramel or whatever you like to dissolve the chocolate and reveal the surprise.

    • I still need to try making the chocolate bowls with balloons! Wish me luck!

  • Cher Marsh

I usually make my on Valentine’s Day decorations with red colored paper. My go to dessert is chocolate covered strawberries and other fruits I buy at the local supermarket. I buy the chocolate and decorate them . My hubby likes a steak dinner with mash and veggies.

    • Can’t go wrong with steak and potatoes – especially if you do it at home. Avoid all those busy restaurants.

  • Valerie Kuehn

I have heart decorative tins in which I put candies in for my girls. Major tip I have is *For spouses to make Valentines-day as memorable as possible! Life is too short & none of us knows what tomorrow holds in store for us! If u would have told me that I was going to be diagnosed with a brain aneurysm 3 years ago & never be able to work again I wouldn’t believe you!
Show your children you love them
On Valentines Day & appreciate any little acknowledgement from anyone who does something nice for you on this special day!

We go out for lobster dinner on valentines day

  • Valerie Kuehn

On Valentines Day, We go to Best Buy & Buy a family oriented dvd to watch at home after returning from dinner

I bake mini cupcakes & I also bake heart sugar cookies. Decorated with candy hearts. My kids are special needs so I send them to school with treats to share

    • Such a sweet idea! I’ll bet they love that.

We are going for a hike in the woods and a picnic on the lake this year instead of going out to eat and I made cookies and brownies to send to my daughter in college, I have a Sizex machine and hand make Valentines for everyone. I keep decorating to a minimum but still put out a few items. Valentines on a budget this year but I think it will be fun!

    • Can’t forget about the kids! Picnics are always a great idea.

  • LeAnn

I usually put together some special Valentine’s toys and candy for the grands and my husband and I have a quiet dinner at home!

    • Love it! I always give my little ones a treat or small gift as well.

  • Kayla Struecker

I created a Be My Valentine box with assorted candy bars with different hand-written sayings attached. “Have I told you Reese-cently how much you mean to me?” “You make my heart BURST” “You are one HOT TAMALE”.

For dinner I just make everything heart shaped. I bought measuring cups that were heart shaped years ago. Rice holds its shape when packed into the cup first and then turned over into the plate. I also use cookie cutters to shape cheeses, fruits and more. My best way to cut costs is to use everything more than once. January 24th is the anniversary of my experimental heart surgery and we celebrate every year since it went so well. We decorate for the 24th and leave everything out until Valentine’s Day. Definitely get our money’s worth!

    • What a good idea! Congratulations, what a way to celebrate!

  • kimdavis

I decorate with homemade valentines my daughter made all through school. I made a wreath of all of them and there are many. I make heart shaped pancakes for breakfast and I make cupcakes for all the neighbor kids with my daughter and we have a special dinner out most years. This year we are on a budget so we are taking a hike and having a picnic instead of going out to eat.

    • I love all of the homemade Valentines and treat suggestions!

  • Linda

I make gift baskets with items I’ve bought with coupons!

    • Coupons for the win! Such a budget friendly idea – I’m definitely a fan!

  • Trace Ivey

I get my wife some flowers and a bottle of bubbly and we make chocolate covered strawberries with whipped cream

    • I love the idea of making something together, how sweet!

  • Bonnie Cormier

For Valentine’s Day, my husband loves brownies made w/ coconut oil. I use a piece of paper w/ a heart cut out to create a template for sprinkling powdered sugar on top before I cut them. Inexpensive treat that the whole family enjoys. 🙂

    • Oh my! I’ll have to give the coconut oil a try! That sounds interesting!

  • Debbie Geisler Belt

For Valentine’s Day, I plan to bake cookies for coworkers and offer to babysit my grandson and celebrate with a Disney movie.

  • Erica Boykin

I love to make sugar cookies and brownie cookies and bake them on a stick. I bundle up a dozen in a vase to gift to co-workers and friends. I may have to consider fruit dipped in dark chocolate this year for some due to their health issues.

    • I’ve never considered a bouquet! What a nice gesture. I usually bring a big box of goodies to share at work!

  • Madeline Lonergan

I like to make brownies and I have heart-shaped cookie cutters that I use. After they are baked and cooled, I cut the brownies with the cookie cutters. Very cute!

    • Love this idea! Sounds very budget friendly!

  • Crystal Gross Thompson

The kids love to make decorations. They cut out hearts, make paper chains, and use paper doilies to decorate. My older kids also love to bake so it’s not hard to have them make some treats.

    • Once they reach the age where they can help in the kitchen, it’s so nice!

  • Dawn Castiglione

We definitely stay in on V-day to avoid those escalated prices and crowds. My teen is my Valentine and we will make a fun meal together…probably a pizza then watch a movie. We usually decorate sugar cookies too!

    • I’m all for staying home for a cozy night in! 🙂

  • So cute and budget-friendly! A DIY gift basket, I love it.
